Of recent times give me your fucking MVP (if you will) of the metal scene. Be it through side-projects, producing or just impact on the scene who fucks with you like no one else does? :kaioken:

Dave Mustaine, his songwriting just strikes me as, I can't find a word for it. Although there are few people who like his vocals, I think some songs really kick ass.

MVP = Most Valuable Person, so to realte to his question name your favourtie singer/songwriter!!

Mine would have to be Anders Nystrom of Katatonia and Bloodbath, he's also has the side project Diabolical Masquerade and and he shows he can write amazing music with the side project!!

In the last five years or so, nobody really stands out in the metal genrè to me.

Take it back ten years, and nothing extremely special still shows up on the radar.

20 years brings us to the age of Metallica, Pantera, Iced Earth et al.

And before that there was Black Sabbath.

The progression to me will always be:

Black Sabbath -> Metallica -> whatever could be next

Nothing's come along yet to reach for the throne.

i'd have to say...Andreas Kisser of Sepultura, he is not well known but if you have ever heard one of his guitar solos then it is sheer brilliance and originality using string bends like noone ive ever seen before. My guitar teacher right now taught Andreas and even has a dedication in thier albums...
Andreas could definately be the reason why i am a metal fan...apart from alexi laiho

Andreas Kisser is definitely one of the most underrated guitarists out there. It continues to beat me how he is not listed as one of the better metal guitarists there is. To me, Igor Cavalera falls into the same loop when it comes to drumming. He's fantastic, but is continuously ignored when it comes to listing (even) good drummers.

Did you kick his ass?

you mean her ass??

And another MVP for me (death metal) would be Trev from Black Dahlia Murder. I picked up the cd "unhallowed" the other day and his lyrics are my personal favorite out of anything. His singing is also that perfect (for me) scream, but can also get into a low growl, and all the while has this awesome emotion in his scream, pick up the cd its great.

DIMEBAG by far.. Pantera look how far they came every album is pure brilliance especially with Phil... Its a choice between PHIL & DIME. Superjoint Ritual, Down, Crowbar,Pantera and all awsome and Damageplan is fucking true moshing music you can just tell DIME's riffs from the moment they start .. So for me both of them..Oh and Vinnie his drumming is distinctive as...666

I say that the metal MVP are the people that love to play it, support it, scream it while they drive( if they got their own ride ), or just understand it and know what it's all about. Many band members feel this way. The fan is the real MVP.

I dunno people, but i think Slayer can still put out a decent album, i don't listen to them much, but their songs are sweet. On GHUA the songs all resembled each other, but who cares, they're all good. Bloodbath is my new fav band. Metallica as a group is probably the most influencial metal band though (St. Anger sucked anus, but nevertheless).
