Real double bass, or a double pedal?

Which do you guys prefer? My friend has been telling me that a double pedal (or whatever the hell it's called) is way better then the actual two basses, I doubt that's true though. Anyone with confirmation?

well, i'm not a drummer...but i've played drums w/a double pedal and double bass before...and it was kinda wierd w/just double pedals, also the sound was a little crappier...but then again, it could just be my lack of talent on drums

are you talking about two bass drums? and one bass
drum with two pedals? because i would go with the
1 bass drum with two pedals
i dont know i guess im just cheap but slipknot uses
two bass drums if that is the sound you want

well in my opinion a double bass is better if you want to gain real speed and divide very well yourself, also sounds better than a double pedal when you are talking bout speed...//

My Drummer uses double-bass. But with two Axis single kicks.
I think double-bass sounds a lot better then one bass and a double-kick.
The two single's are way more sturdy too.
But on my set I use an Axis double-kick. Since I can't afford another bass and a rack.

Well, two-bass might sound better, but it takes shitloads of room! With using a double pedal, you can place 3-4 more cymbals or toms, making the sounding more progressive...

I used to have both - when I bought my second drum kit, I didn't threw away the first one, just mixed them, so I had two-bass... Later on I bought a double pedal... ...Much much better!

double bass pedal is cool cause you get exact tonality...if you want to take the time to keep them tune the two bass drums definitley look cooler

If you're from a place from US or UK, I can imagine that... In Hungary if I'd buy another good, new bass drum, it would be one monthly income of mine to spend on it...

Anyways, I got my old one by keeping my old drum-kit, when I bought a complete pearl (collected the fuckin' money for 3 years...)... I mixed the two, but of course I still got only one hit-hats, and one snare... (I see no point of using more, I'm not a jazz drummer) And it did really eat up shitloads of room... Later on I bought a double pedal, sold the old bass drum, and it's much better now this way... :D

If you can afford it, get 2 bass drums, a double kick pedal and a single kick. This way you can tune the bass drum with the double bass higher for death metal purposes and keep the other one lower tuned for a bigger tonal range.

Or, has anyone seen the single bass pedal that acts as a double bass pedal? The Duallist - it seems very interesting to me, I would like to try it out but it is very expensive and guitar center wont have it because they have a lame selection.

Hmmm... It might be a little hard to learn how to use it 100% efficiently...

Hmm, Am I the only one that notices no difference between a double bass pedal and two bass drums with single kicks? Sure, they look different, but that's all I've found.

Never actually played a proper double drum rig, but there's no doubt it looks loads better. So long as your double pedal isn't worn out (I used to have an old cannon with UJs so shot that you had to advance timing on your left foot to get it to play in time, ha ha) there's not a lot to be gained from two individual bass drums. Apart from looking very, very cool.

Mind you, lack of space is one of the reasons I'm considering one of those Yamaha RX electronic kits. Had a go on one in a store the other day, the possibilities could be endless, but it did sound a bit funny when doing blastbeats. Probably get used to it.

Price wise is better for one bass drum and double pedal and then if he has eough money then 2 bass drums sound better!

Two bass drums look better, but for hauling it all around a double pedal is much better in my opinion!

I had 2 bass drums on my old set and when we used to record, they would never seem to sound exactly alike. They would either have different tones or volumes.

As soon as we switched to a singal drum with 2 pedals it was a lot easier and better sound so we stuck with using the single drum and a double kicker.

2 drums looks cooler though, but takes up a lot more room and sometimes they dont fit anywhere if its not made for the set.
