I'm never able to rely on a drummer for live shows, and I'd like to have a good drum machine as a backup. Someone told me the Roland 606 was and oldie but a goodie, although I'm not sure if it would be right for a speed/thrash metal band. Does anyone have good experience with drum machines? I'd love to hear some recommendations.

Don't know much about them, because I think they suck. But please....don't use a drummachine for thrash metal....it just....just don't do it

Very few like thrash in Austin, and even fewer Austin drummers are interested. I'd play drums and the guitar and sing at the same time if I could.

You want to do gigs with that drummachine then? I don't think much people are interested in seeing a (thrash) band with a drummachine.
You could record a cd or something though.

The fact that you say people wouldn't be interested in it only makes me want to do it more, and I bet a drum machine would at least sound better than Lars Ulrich.
