Frequently Asked Questions
Q:
Why band X is not on MetalTabs? Aren't they metal?
A:
There are four possibilities:
We don't have any tabs for X. You can request the tabs here.
Your band will appear on MetalTabs as soon as the tab is approved by our team unless...
We don't consider X metal. Our stance on this (rather pointless) debate is similar
to the position of
Encyclopaedia Metallum. This means that if a band
is approved at Encyclopaedia Metallum, it will be approved here as well. If you added a tab
and it was rejected by our team, your best bet is to get it listed on EM and then
re-submit your tab.
Band X is well-known for their hostile attitude towards free online tablature
(Metallica anyone?) or they asked us to remove their tabs from MetalTabs.
We still need to contact X for the permission to publish their tabs on this website,
or we are waiting for their answer. More on that below.
Q:
Why are some bands in the pending list?
A:
MetalTabs is a legal tablature archive. We seek permission from all
bands that are available on our website. "Pending" means we still need to contact the band,
or we contacted them but still didn't receive a reply from them.
Q:
What is the "Hall of Shame"?
A:
Some bands explicitly asked us to remove their tablature from MetalTabs. There can be many
reasons for this: some want to make money selling their tab books and consider free online
tablature a competition; some don't want their music to be played by anyone but themselves;
some just don't care about their most loyal fans. Whatever the reason, we want you to know
about their decision. "Hall of Shame" does not mean we hate those bands, in fact we quite
like most of them, but we hate their attitude towards you - our visitors. And we really hope
that one day they will change their mind.
Q:
What are all those coloured dots about?
A:
They show the status of a tab, album or band. The status of a tab is the same as the status
of the album it belongs to. The status of a band is a combination of statuses of all its albums.
The status of an album is one of the following:
We have received an explicit permission from the band or
the label to publish tabs from this album here on MetalTabs.
We did our best to contact the band but either could not
find any contact information or they did not respond to our requests. We make the tabs
available but reserve the right for the band to ask for their removal.
We still need to contact the band, or we have already
contacted them and waiting for their answer.
The band or their label asked us to remove the tabs.
The tabs are not available until the band change their mind.
Q:
I didn't find a tab I was looking for, can you transcribe or find it for me?
A:
No. However you can post a request in the Tab Questions & Requests
forum.
Q:
Can I submit my work to MetalTabs?
A:
Yes! Nothing can make us happier than a new tab! Please go to the
submit page for instructions.
Q:
I submitted my tab a couple of days ago but it's still not on the site.
When will it be archived?
A:
The average time is about a week, however it can take up to a month before your tab is archived.
